Did you grow up knowing you had a voice? Did you know you could have impacted all of California?
Growing up in East LA, I never could have imagined having my voice heard and to be able to share my experiences as a person of color and DACA recipient. Youth and Government has helped around 3,600 delegates per year to build their public speaking abilities and learn how California's court and legislation system work, which includes the opportunity to practice civic engagement at the state's capitol. California’s YMCA Youth & Government has provided outstanding statewide educational and social experiences close to 100,000 middle and high school youth for more than 70 years. Not only do we expand our knowledge on political issues that we are passionate about, but we as delegates, from all over California come together to Fresno and Sacramento to build a sense of community and family.
Youth and Government is a safe place for many delegates including myself. I have been able to talk about my story and run for elected positions in an envirnment that has challenged my views and accepted them with something as simple and meanful as spirit fingers. However many students are deprived of this amazing experience because of their finacial circumstance. Many teenagers, including my delegation depend on scholarship funds that the program provides. I have been part of Youth and Government since my freshman year and have depended on the financial aid the program provides, I am also aware I am not the only one that is in need of scholarships to be able to attend conferences and experience Y&G.
Please help contribute to delegates who depend on scholarship funds to participate in Youth and Government and provide them with the opportunity to expand their perspective and skills. Any contribution will be appreciated and will support us to be one step closer to helping someone experience the unique world of court, politics and advocacy. Together we can achieve so much more. Every gift makes a difference. Please join me and give today!
