I timidly walked up to a podium in one of my school's club called Youth and Government. I had heard about it through my friends, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to join. Then public speaking wasn't something I was passionate about, but as I got to the podium and spoke for a bill that was being proposed. I felt a thrill and could feel my heart pounding but I felt good. I joined the next year and was scared, but I felt myself changing for better.
Youth and Government has helped me in so many ways; it has helped me grow in character, confidence, and knowledge. Without the influence of Y&G in my life I don't know where I would be, but I know that the sense of community it has given me has helped me for the better. Youth and Government has let me get over so many of my problems and start to overcome my severe social anxiety. This is why it breaks my heart when people can't experience this phenomenal program because of the cost of the program.
Youth and Government is a program that should be accessible to all because passion shouldn't come with a price. There are people who have a passion for politics and government who have the right to be able to express this. With programs like FLC people from areas that aren't necessarily affluent can join. The more money I raise the cheaper this program can be for delegates who need the money. There are so many people that can be in this program with some help.
I am pushing you to help change teenagers lives by donating to FLC.
Building values-based leadership and civic engagement in California’s youth is important to me. That is why I am proud to volunteer for California YMCA Youth & Government.
