To put it simply, I am asking for donations for a program I love, Youth and Government (Y&G). All the money raised will be given directly to students who cannot afford the costs of this program. I care deeply for Y&G, and here's why you should to:
Youth and Government is essentially a model legislature and court program in which students take three trips, two to Fresno then a final one to Sacramento. There you learn about the inner workings of the government, and participate in real life situations from senate bill hearings to appellate court cases. With those expereinces comes a multitiude of benefits, one HUGE one being the confidence instilled in each delegate. It is not uncommon for a student to enter the program shy, and fearful of public speaking, but to graduate with the amazing ability to speak confidently in front of large crowds. This is due to the thriving positivity instilled in Y&G culture, it's nearly impossible to not grow to become much more confident. This feauture in Y&G allows the program to have a lifelong impact because we can take what we've learned and how we've grown, and apply it to all aspects of our life inside, and outside of Y&G.
So yes, Youth and Government is beneficial in an educational and austere way, but it is quite truly the community aspect of Y&G however, that has really left me yearning to be back in Fresno, the minute my delegation leaves. The moment you step into the crowded convention center, you feel a sense of community, knowing you're surrounded by thousands of kids who all strongly wish to make a change. And despite each delegate's differing background, we are all still able to come together and relate on an entirely new level. I am confident that I could walk up to any delegate and immediately make a new friend, because we all are connected through this amazing program.
Like I previously expressed, many delegates cannot afford the immense cost it takes to be apart of the program. And while it is needed in order to fund hotels, transportation, and other amenities, it is an aspect that causes a substancial amount of people to find the program inaccessible. Sadly, one in three delegates need financial aid from the California's YMCA. Since Y&G is a program that thrives on diversity, inclusivity, and community, it is essential that every delegate, regardless of their socioeconomic status, can participate in such a life-changing experience. This program has changed my life and I find it unacceptable that anyone would be barred from experiencing what I have in this program simply because of something as trivial as money.
This is what the Future Leaders Campaign is about. We are a group of passionate kids who know the extent to which this program can change someone's life for the better. So from now until our final conference in February, we are trying our hardest to raise as much money as possible. The money raised here will go directly to student scholarships. Youth and Government has been such an influencial and amazing experience for so many kids. It has made me the person I am today. It has built my confidence, and sparked a passion I didn't know I had. It is essential that anyone who wants to join, has the chance to do so. This program gives us the chance to leave our own impression on the world, and hopefully make a change on what we're passionate about. We are the future, and Y&G helps shape us into the future leaders we will be.
It’s my duty to give back to this program that I love more than anything. So please, join me in empowering the next generation of California’s youth, and donate.
Thank you for supporting something I love so dearly,
