I am a participant in Youth and Government (Y&G), a wonderful program run by the Cal YMCA that provides high school students across California with the opportunity to participate in a model legislature and court. Not only does this promote civic engagement, but it gives students an opportunity to speak for or against issues that they are passionate about and make a difference; it gives a voice to our generation here in California.
Personally, this program has given me a place to grow in my leadership skills and has allowed me to find my passion. I have always known that I love to argue, but Y&G has given me a place where that argumentative spirit is channeled into something powerful and meaningful, while still remaining structured and respectful. Currently in my final year of the program, my appreciation of Y&G has only grown over the past four years that I have participated in it, and I know everyone in my delegation feels the same. The relationships I have formed with fellow delegates across the state are genuine, and to think that some of them might not have been able to join this program due to financial strain is heartbreaking.
1 in every 3 students in Y&G receive financial aid to participate. Knowing this, I joined the Future Leaders Campaign. As members of the FLC Youth Division, we as students across California come together to raise money for these scholarship students. Many kids in my own delegation have been able to benefit from last year’s funding, and this year I hope to continue to raise money for them, myself, and other students in California to be able to continue to participate.
That is why a donation from you would be greatly appreciated. My goal is $325, and I hope that you can help me achieve and even surpass that. Donations as little as $5 are helpful. Thank you for joining me in supporting California's youth.
