Over the past 8 years, many of you have seen my posts about Youth and Government . I have served as a volunteer advisor for the California YMCA Youth and Government program, traveling to 3 yearly conferences and meeting weekly to develop leadership, public speaking skills, personal development, and responsibility in young teens. The program uses our governmental system and democracy to learn about the world around them and inspire change for a better future. I participated in this program in high school and it was the most beneficial programs that I could have participated in. Year after year despite a more busy schedule and sleep deprived nights, I return because I can see first-hand the impact this program has on the students.
However, this 6-month hands-on program is expensive when traveling to three conferences including a week in Sacramento. Not all delegates can afford to take part, so this year I am helping to fundraise for scholarships. I personally have had high schoolers benefit who would not have been able to join because of this fund, and am asking today for your help! If this program has impacted you, or you are willing to help – it would mean the world to me and the delegates this program serves.
Building values-based leadership and civic engagement in California’s youth is important to me. That is why I am proud to volunteer for California YMCA Youth & Government.
California YMCA Youth & Government has provided outstanding statewide educational and social experiences close to 100,000 middle and high school youth for more than 65 years.
Together we can achieve so much more. Every gift makes a difference. Everyone has a role to play. Please join me and give today.
